Upgrade Results
Dell XPS-R400 P2/400 to IWILL Slotket II P3/700 (boxed version w/ heatsink/fan purchased from www.acnt.com for $250, $270 with tax). IWILL slotket II purchased from Fry’s Electronics Manhattan Beach, California for $20. Only one jumper changed: jumper 8 set to COPPERMINE. BIOS A13 used – did not enter maintenance mode. Simply plugged slotket with P3/700 into slot. Most difficult part: attaching heatsink/fan to new CPU! (yikes). Confirmed available J4M1 outlet for CPU fan.
128 megs ram / Diamond GL1000 Pro – 2D video card
Canopus Voodoo 2 – 3D video card used on all tests. quantity: 2 / vsync off on all tests
Ctrl-alt-del programs running during all tests: systray, explorer, em_exec
Sound on all tests. Total time for upgrade: 15 minutes.
